Will Gas Prices Ever Go Down

I used to love the song, "What goes up, must come down." It's just another one of those funny laws of physics. But if that law is so true, then why am I left wondering will gas prices ever go down?

The whole gas thing is pretty screwed up when you think about it. Like during elections time, we always seem to hear promises that gas prices will drop for good. And yup, here We in are right smack dab in the middle of an other election time again, and gas prices are once again a "real pain in the gas." And sure, if by some miracle the prices do drop a tad, you can rest assured they will skyrocket right back up again just like they always do. That's how they get away with it. Gas prices will never go down; only up.

We blame the oil companies. We blame the politicians. We blame Iran. We blame Venezuela. We blame china. We blame the dollar. We blame consumers. We even blame the weather (remember Katrina?). The fact is, there is no single entity to blame. It's a combination of many factors that leave us scratching our heads wondering are gas prices going to go up, what can we do about gas prices. and will gas prices ever go down?

For example; if we blame Bush, then we should see gas prices drop to pre 2001 prices after he's through serving his term, right? Some people actually believe this. What about the rest of the government? Are they helping matters? Let's see... Now that Congress looks like it will pass legislation to increase the mandatory gas mileage for cars sold in the U.S., Gas price probably will go higher. First, demand will be down, so cost will go up and second since we will buy less, they will collect less money for road in taxes so they are all ready talking about raising the gas taxes because revenue is down.

No matter who is to blame, it's clear that the energy policy is a loser at the gate and we are all getting hosed. The only winners are the oil companies. As consumers, we are currently in a death spiral. We're willing to spend more on gas, spend more on refinancing mortgages, spend more on heating our homes, etc. Certainly in this crisis, we are taking our last gasps, gasps in gas fumes.

Don't allow yourself to be deluded here. Think it through and think your way out of it. It is up to you and me to change our thinking and habits and cut the strings. People are solving this problem and there certainly is a light at the end of the tunnel. Thank goodness that solution doesn't involve gasoline!
